Peking, September 13, 1908.

With reference to your despatch No. 335 of the 17th July, I am informed by the Wai-wu Pu that Mr. Dresing and the Chinese Delegate are at the present time negotiating with the Japanese Government in Tôkiô, and that it is hoped soon to reach a satisfactory settlement of the question.

I have accordingly requested Sir Claude MacDonald by telegraph to tell me whether I can be of any assistance here by making further representations to the Chinese Government.
